His stories and photos about gardening have appeared in Horticulture, Carolina Gardener, Urban Farm, Hobby Farm Home, Backyard Poultry and Fine Gardening magazine.

In his youth, Frank picked oranges in Spain, worked on tomato farms as an IPM scout, worked on a cattle farm and was an organic farmer, growing tomatoes for restaurants and natural food stores. He studied horticulture and design at NC State University.

He has co-founded three community gardens and recently worked with his wife on two organic farms in Provence.

Frank is an award-winning designer who has created beautiful and sustainable gardens in Durham for 19 years as the owner of Cottage Garden Landscaping. In addition to hundreds of gardens created for homeowners,  Frank has also created gardens for city parks, group homes, elementary schools (edible gardens and playgrounds), a senior center,  a farmer’s market, restaurants and offices. He’s created gardens that are dramatic, colorful, edible, fragrant, drought-hardy, deer-resistant, low-maintenance, organic and just plain pretty.

Frank gardens with his wife, Chris, in downtown Durham, NC at Bayleaf Cottage.

The only thing I like better than gardening is talking about gardening. I can do both on-site/hands-on workshops or indoor slideshows. Can provide my own LCD projector, laptop and screen if necessary. Programs can be tailored to your time constraints. My rates are negotiable and I love to travel.

Not Tonight Deer

Chris Glenn from Raleigh, NC - 02/20/2018 16:38:46

I'm the programs and education coordinator at the JC Raulston Arboretum. Frank is a professional speaker to work as we planned his most recent speaking engagement at the JCRA. The same is true for his past programs, too. Everyone in the audience enjoyed his presentation. There were more questions and comments made in this class than I've seen in many other programs. He inspired considerable thought among the attendees.

We had heard rave reviews of Frank's talks and we were not disappointed. He is informative, fun, and all in all was a great addition to our seminar. We hope he comes back.
