Latest Speakers One Sheet

Born in England, I grew up with a trowel in my hand.

After moving to the Pacific Northwest in 1996 I joined one of the leading garden nurseries as a garden plant specialist. Helping hundreds of customers create beautiful combinations of plants to enhance their outdoor living spaces was always a delight. Ten years later I established Le jardinet in order to provide a service that takes all the time, stress and guesswork out of the design process for you.

In the recent past I have taught container gardening  at Edmonds Community College, and continue to teach both container and landscape design in occasional workshops and events as well offering a range of online learning opportunities through Craftsy and Garden Gate Magazine.

With excellent reviews on the Great Garden Speakers website, I frequently give presentations at flower & garden shows, trade conferences, horticultural organizations, nurseries and garden clubs.

When I’m not teaching garden design or talking about it I am usually writing about it, and my articles and design have been featured in many national gardening publications including Fine Gardening, Country Gardens, Sunset, and Garden Design. I have co-authored two books with Christina Salwitz, award winning Fine Foliage (St. Lynn’s Press, 2013) and the highly acclaimed Gardening with Foliage First (Timber Press, 2017), while my latest book Deer-Resistant Design (Timber Press, 2019) is receiving excellent reviews.

Specializing in creating artistic plant combinations with a four season foliage framework, functional outdoor living spaces and deer resistant, summer-dry designs, it would give me great pleasure to share my love of gardening with you.

I regularly present live and virtual seminars  to trade organizations, international Flower & Garden Shows, Master Gardener conferences, Horticultural Societies, private groups, garden clubs and nurseries.

Signed copies of all my books: DEER-RESISTANT DESIGN (Timber Press, 2019) GARDENING WITH FOLIAGE FIRST (Timber Press, 2017) and FINE FOLIAGE(St. Lynn's Press, 2013), can be made available after talks.

Please request my latest speakers one sheet with suggested topic titles, but I am also happy to work with your event planner to tailor a program to suit your needs and audience.

I also offer container design workshops for small groups of home gardeners and nursery professionals in my garden occasionally as my schedule permits.  Please enquire for details.

Deer Resistant Design

Cindy Widmaier from Woodinville - 10/08/2020 14:18:39

I had the pleasure of working with Karen to present this topic in a webinar format. In order to have the best experience for our attendees, she made sure that we "practiced" several times to iron out any kinks. The presentation went flawlessly, on October 7, 2020. Karen is an engaging and interactive speaker, even on Zoom. The topic was fresh and her most recent book, Deer Resistant Design, is a treasure.

Karen is a great speaker, clear, practical, funny, and knowledgeable. Great pictures of gardens from around the country accompany the discussion. If you get a chance, take a listen and don't forget to buy her books.

Inspiring and Wonderful

Eve Choi from Grand Rapids, Michgian - 08/13/2020 14:45:09

It was a true joy to have the opportunity to work with Karen Chapman we transitioned her previously scheduled in-person lecture and workshops to live, virtual events through Zoom Webinar. Her experience and skill as a public speaker translated to a virtual format beautifully, and I learned so much through our collaboration on this project. We received an outpouring of positive feedback following the lecture and classes, and this email summarized those sentiments best:

"Just wanted to say thank you for hosting the lecture last night. It was splendid and so enjoyable...Please know how inspiring and helpful I found it to be a part of the zoom presentation. Looking forward to more, almost felt like normal for a short time! I will be so much more mindful of color, texture and combinations for arrangements and plantings in my garden. Wonderful!!"

Karen made her lecture and workshops a meaningful experience for everyone involved.
