Marty is an enthusiastic gardener who has a small, city garden in Kansas City, Missouri, and a sprawling country garden in Gloucester County, Virginia, across the mighty York River from Colonial Williamsburg.

 

She graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans with a degree in English, and has worked for a wire service, daily newspapers, a weekly newspaper, and monthly magazines, and has been a free-lance garden journalist for 20 years.

 

She is the author of Ortho's All About Bulbs, principle author of HGTV's Flower Gardening and Sunset's Reinvent Your Garden. Her work has been anthologized in The Writer in the Garden and in The Gardener's Almanac.
