Guide to Talks


Paul Hervey-Brookes is a well-respected designer who has built a strong reputation for landscapes and gardens that are classically English relying on planting schemes to create spaces and rich, multi-layered habitats. His plant-focused philosophy is rooted in his early training at the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh and subsequent garden experiences.

Paul has been described by his peers as arty, creative and possessing an immense plant knowledge. His ability to read landscapes and evoke intense feelings and emotions has won him acclaim across the board.  He works on a diverse range of public landscapes and private gardens both in the Untied Kingdom and Internationally.

He has created a number of show gardens including four at the Chelsea Flower Show, where he won Gold with the BrandAlley Garden in 2013 along with creating gardens for Bradstone in 2010 and the RNIB in 2011, winning a Silver and Silver-Gilt Medal respectively.   Paul has also created show gardens on the International stage, most recently returning to Gardening World Cup Japan to win Best in Show.  He has exhibited at International Flower Show in New Zealand in 2014 and Philadelphia Flower Show this year.  Paul won Gold and Best Destination Garden for his Discover Jordan Garden at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in 2012.  The garden was based on his personal experiences of this unique and richly diverse landscape.

Alongside designing gardens Paul has designed a range of gardening gifts for Marks & Spencer, designed to increase biodiversity and habitat potential within the garden these were included in many ‘top 10’ shortlists in newspapers and magazines.  Paul has also launched a range of gardening and garden design solutions with the UK’s leading paving manufacture Bradstone including free to download design content.

Paul has a book coming out in 2016 with the Timber Press which covers creating the Enlgish Garden look anywwhere in th world. 

Paul is a dynamic public speaker and lectures widely on plants and gardens.   He is a RHS Trials Judge working on Thalitcrum, Penstemon and Stipa trials and mentor to the designers taking part in the Royal Horticultural Society Young Designer of the Year Competition.

Paul is happy to travel across the United States and will be based in the USA for a large part of 2015 making travel much easier.

Based on Paul’s travels in the Middle East. A talk which picks up some of the most noteworthy plants that can be found growing in modern day Israel & Jordan. Many of these plants have fascinating historical uses and the talk combines history with plant description. Paul is an expert guide for Cox & Kings taking botanical trips to Jordan.

Trade Secrets, Behind the Show

Everyone wants to know how show gardens are built and gain an insight into the mysterious world of creating Chelsea magic. As a Chelsea Gold Medal winning designer Paul takes you on a tongue in cheek tour of how these amazing gardens are created from design to reality.

Strange Histories
From staying thin, beautiful and glossy to living for over 100 years and eventually dealing with death plants and garden shave offered a variety of solutions, some humorous, some real and some downright outrageous. 


Paul is predominantly based in the United Kingdom but travels extensively.

Paul will be spending a large proportion of 2015 based in the United States in the Philadelphia region.
